Around 1857 the village of Wright city was laid out by a gentleman to whom the land had been granteed by the United States and such a manner as to be aligned with the location of the new North Missouri Railroad. Approximately twelve years later the village was incorporated as a town and at the beginning of the 1940's as a city. At present the city's economy benefits from the presence of the railroad and the interstate highway. There is a red caboose built for the Norfolk & Western railroad, located in the city park. The face painted in the windows of the caboose are of seniors of the Wright City Academy art class.
