Two brothers, who were raised as farmers, were the first to purchase land in the Piedmont around the period 1853 to 1856. One was able to build a sustainable farm on his land, whereas the other was not. He therefore opened a general store in this area called Danielsville after the brothers. A schoolhouse and post office were soon established followed by the stage coach service running from Ironton to Doniphan. Around 1868, the St. Louis Iron Mountain and Southern railway decided to extend their track all the way to the Arkansas state line and pass near Danielsville on the way. The vice president of the railroad purchased property from the brothers and divided up the acreage into business lots which he then sold. This new town, located across the McKenzie Creek from Danielsville, was then renamed Piedmont. Clearwater lake, lying to the West of town, offers opportunities for fishing, water skiing, swimming and boating. Around the lake there are campsites, swim beaches, boat ramps, marinas and playgrounds. Some of the kinds of fish which are living in the lake are Bluegill, sunfish, catfish, largemouth, white bass, spotted bass, carp and crappie.
