About the area |
This city is home to the inventor of the Hubble telescope, Edwin Powell Hubble. To commemorate this a Hubble telescope replica was dedicated and is located on the West side of the Webster County courthouse. The city's park have facilities for every recreational activity. There is an outdoor arena; kitchen facilities; a softball field with bleachers, concessions, and scoreboard; a nature park; a basketball court; playground equipment, pavilions; Bar-B-Q pits; picnic tables; a gazebo; a multi-sport complex with tennis courts, volleyball, basketball, soccer fields, baseball fields and a walking track and a memorial park. One of the parks, Ellis O. Jackson is also the Webster County Fairgrounds. The annual 4th of July celebration here is preceded by and includes an Independence Day rodeo and fireworks display. Bull riders from throughout the United States take part in this rodeo. |
