Be sure to visit Vardaman in November to go to the annual Sweet Potato Festival to celebrate the city's place as the Sweet Potato Capital of the World. Besides the various cotests, including the Antique Tractor competition, there is the heart and soul of this festival, the Sweet Potato Pie Eating and Original Sweet Potato Recipe contests. There are plenty of other things to eat at this big party including the Barbecued chicken dinner offered at the Fire Station. They even give you musical entertainment. The city has a new half million dollar Youth Sports complex which includes a girl's high school softball field and other baseball/ softball fields and a Community Center with an Olympic size swimming pool.
