| About the area |
Meadville was founded in the early 1800's and in the 1860's, recovering from a countywide depression in the 1830's, established telegraph service, inns and taverns, houses of private entertainment, a post office and had a workforce that included cobblers, school teachers, a group of lawyers, a number of mechanics, several blacksmiths, and a tailor. Many of these people were immigrants from Europe and Russia. The establishments were then run run by people who had recently arrived from abroad which helped the recovery. |
