About the area

Biloxi is home to Keesler Air Force Base, home of the 81st Training Wing. This base, which is on land once the Biloxi Country Club, opened in 1941 as a training center for pilots for the Army Air Corps. The area included three golf courses, the Biloxi airport, a baseball park used by the Washington Senators major league baseball team for spring training, the Naval Reserve Park and some private property. The base now covers over 1,500 acres and is the location of the 2nd Air Force headquarters and Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard units as well as for military and civilian employees relocated from the closure of other Air Force bases..
