| About the area |
Pascagoula had a big shipbuilding industry going around 1917; as a result of the need for ships increased during World War I. In the late 1930's shipbuilding was developed by Ingalls Iron Works which now, through acquisitions, is part of the Northrop Grumman Corporation shipbuilding operations and provides a lot of employment opportunities for the area. This shipyard built a wide variety of commercial ships and other structures over the years, but in the early 1950's emphasis was redirected from producing commercial vessels to producing ships for the US Navy's combatant fleet. The Pascagoula Inner Harbor is a desirable spot for most
boating enthusiasts in the area and many folks just come here to enjoy the beautiful sunset scene over its picturesque shoreline
