| About the area |
In the 1880's a lumberman built a sawmill in the area that became the city's early industrial base. In 1900 the population was still under 100. In the early 1900's when the Mobile-Jackson and Kansas City Railroad was built through the town; another lumberman moved his sawmill to the city and became the founder of the Municipality of Bay Springs. The city then prospered and there was an increase in population. Today that population is over 2100.
