Among many other attractions in Meridian, there are two wonderful sites to visit; the Highland Park Dentzel Carousel and the Jimmie Rodgers museum. This National Historic Landmark carousel is the world's only two row stationary Dentzel menagerie in existence and was manufactured in the 1890's in Philadelphia. Jimmie Rodgers "the Singing Brakeman," was born and grew up in the Meridian area. The museum contains his original guitar and other memorabilia of his life and career, as well as a special treat; railroad equipment from the steam engine era.
