About the area

As were many other towns in this area, Columbia was founded in the early 1800's on the banks of the Pearl River which provided an early route for transporting goods. Gardner stadium is a park in Columbia with fields for baseball, soccer and football with stadium seating for the latter 2 sports. Columbia-Marion County airport is located to the North of the city. This municipal airport is co-owned by the county and the city and has a single runway over 4400 feet in length.
