About the area |
In the early 1900's, with a population of a little over 300; the Village of Decatur was declared a town by proclamation of the then Lieut. and Acting Governor of the state of Mississippi. Soon thereafter an agricultural high school was established in Decatur. From this school the Newton County Agricultural High School, grew the
Junior College now called East Central Community College, at Decatur.
