About the area |
The Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge is located just to the Northwest of Brooksville on Bluff lake and covers approximately 48,000 acres. The park is a resting and feeding area for migratory birds in particular the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. There are many trails here where visitors can catch sight of the wide variety of birds as they rest on their way to a final location. In addition activities are encouraged which are compatible with the objectives of the refuge. During the fall and winter months as many as 15,000 ducks and 1,200 geese are present with such species as mallard, pintail, American wigeon, green-winged teal, wood duck and Canada geese; presenting great oppotunities for hunting which is permitted in designated areas in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations. |
