| About the area |
The Magnolia Post Office is unique for what can be seen there. Hanging in this building are large murals depicting scenes of early Mississippi life; which were painted during the depression by WPA artists. When the Illinois Central Railroad ran through town, Magnolia was the central stop between Jackson, Mississippi and New Orleans, Louisiana. The Central House Hotel which was a popular stop along the rail line during the Civil War was converted to a hospital administered by confederate physicians. In the 1890's the hotel was destroyed by fire and the site is now partially occupied by the Old Langdon Hotel and a collection of small retail stores known as “The Village.”
