| About the area |
When the early settlers in the area purchased two sections of land from the Chickasaw nation in the 1830's; the town of Senatobia was founded. The area was a rest stop on the trail leading to Hot Springs, Arkansas but with the founding of the town and the construction of a station on the Tennessee and Mississippi railroad, things took off. Commercial establishments were started and the population grew with it. Although, the town's
business section was burned by Federal troops during the Civil War; by 1880 there were over fifty active businesses, a newly established newspaper and several physicians in Senatobia.
