About the area |
Belmont was originally called Gum Springs with the establishment of a post office in the 1880's. With thecompletion of the Birmingham Division of the Illinois Central Railroad in the early 1900's the town grew in leaps and bounds. The town population now only numbers about 1500. Tishomingo County airport, an airfield with a runway extending for 3000 feet is located to the South of Belmont. |
