About the area |
Iuka was named after a Chickasaw Indian Chief; but not just any chief but one who was smart enough to park himself near and partakeof the medicinal waters in the Mineral Springs which later became popular and even earn a gold medal for the purest and best mineral water at the World's Fair in St. Louis in the early 1900's. People coming to Iuka's springs in the late 1870's to seek refuge from yellow fever; led to the city becoming a health resort with resort hotels.
