The rairoad brings them all and Myrtle is no different. Its growth was centered around the railroad depot which brought prosperity to the area. The owner of the land around the depot laid out the streets on which stores and residences were located. The stores attracted customers from the nearby areas and the railroad served the community with mail delivery and as a depot for large shipments of cotton and lumber. However this is not such a peaceful town anymore. A 16-year-old Union County boy stands accused of a forcible rape in connection with an assault on a girl in Myrtle.
