Two buildings you might want to see while you are here which offer splendid examples of circa 1900 architecture are the B.S. Ricks Memorial Library and the Triangle Cultural Center. The library, donated to the city in honor of a Confederate general, and which is the oldest library in Mississippi has a beautiful marble foyer with a gold-leaf ceiling and a stained glass skylight. The cultural center, built just after the start of the 20th century, was originally a school and is replete with fine architectural detail. The building has been renovated to incorporate a theater, a meeting room for civic organizations, the Yazoo County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Yazoo Historical Society Museum, and class rooms for ballet and art. |
