Lewistown Court

The Lewistown Justice Court and the Lewistown City Court, which both lie in the Tenth judicial district of Montana, are part of the Lewistown Court. Civic and traffic infractions occurring throughout Fergus county, with the exception of those occurring within the city limits of Lewistown, are handled by the justice court. US 87 and US 191 run together from the West through Fergus county till they split apart at Fergus to each run to the East of the county where they both meet SR 19 running between them and US 87 meets SR 200. US 87, US 87 Truck Bypass and US 191 all run through Lewistown.

Lewistown sits near five beautiful mountain ranges, the Snowies, the Judiths, the Moccasins, the Belts and the Highwoods. The historic Lewistown Art Center holds monthly gallery shows featuring Montana and intermountain artists and is the site of the Central Montana Community Concert season running from October through March. Every year on the first Saturday after Labor Day the city celebrates the Chokecherry, a small, maroon-colored fruit with a puckery taste, at the annual Chokecherry festival. Starting with a pancake breakfast served with Chokecherry Syrup; the festivities continue with the great sporting event the Chokecherry pit-spitting contest, art & craft booths, a 5k and 1 mile run/walk. a Chokecherry culinary contest, free entertainment and a classic car show. To celebrate the history, heritage and values of the American cowboy in the upper Rocky Mountain West the city annually holds a Montana Cowboy Poetry Gathering and Western Music Rendezvous in August. Besides the Chuck Wagon supper and the Pitch Fork Steak fry there are the Cowboy Poetry and Western Music Sessions, the Western Art and Gear Show and the art, artisans & musicians all up and down Lewistown’s historic Main street.
