About the area |
Although the Flathead reservation was established around 1855 and the first permanent mission was founded at St. Ignatius around 1854; the county was not formed till around 1923. The county took its name from Flathead lake which is a big presence in the area. Polson is located within the Flathead Indian reservation. It is the trading center for a farming area which is a prime cherry growing region, celebrated by the city's an annual Cherry Festival. |
