In the Terry Court complex you will find the Terry Justice Court and the Terry City Court which are in the Seventh judicial district of Montana. The justice court handles civil and traffic violations occurring in Prairie county outside of the city of Terry limits and the city court handles those occurring in the city. IS 94 swoops across Prairie county on a slant and meets SR 253, coming in from the Northwest, halfway through the county. SR 253 runs through Terry and IS 94 brushes the Southeast tip of the town.
About the area
At one time Native Americans, huge herds of buffalo and elk shared the area around Terry. At first Terry was named Joubert’s Landing, but was renamed around 1880 for the commander of a six year campaign against the Sioux. When the Northern Pacific Railroad was running regularly to Glendive Terry was an overnight stop for travelers, but by 1882 was on a daily schedule. There are plenty of places to camp and hike along established trails in the nearby Terry Badlands Wilderness area. To cool off in Summer visit the WPA built municipal pool located in Murn Park. If it's a workout you want you can get it, at the Prairie Community Center, set to music.
