Hot Springs Court lies within the Twentieth judicial district of Montana. SR 28 runs through the extreme Eastern part of Hot Springs.
About the area
The Pond d'Orielle Indians knew of the healing waters in this area long before trappers and settlers discovered them, and called them "Big Medicine." Although there was a bathhouse and swimming pool complex here owned and operated by the tribes it has closed down and attempts to reopen it have not succeeded. The town has been through hard times; Main street was destroyed by fire around 1918 and again around 1931. In the 1980's the Hot Springs Mercantile burned to the ground. However, many painters, potters, jewelry makers and other craftsmen have found the town to be to their liking and taken up permanent residence. The LaRue-Hot Springs museum has on display artifacts from the Bitterroot Valley to the Camas Prairie, items prior to the homesteading of the Flathead reservation, memorabilia of the Salish and equipment used in homesteading and ranching.
