About the area
There are close to 30 parks in Butte, many of which have been built on reclaimed former mine sites. The parks include neighborhood parks, tot lots, skating rinks, golf courses, pools, sports fields and community parks. One of them Thompson park was dedicated around 1915 and shortly after a concrete arch that spans Harding Way was erected. However, it was not until the 1930's that this park took on its present character when Works Progress Administration workers cleared Thompson Park to construct roads, picnic areas, trails, ski jumps and other amenities. Features in the park include the 9 Mile House (Thompson Inn), 10 and 11 Mile houses. If you want to see one of the homes built during the mine rich days of this city visit the Charles W. Clark Chateau museum. This structure erected around 1898 has 26 rooms spread out over four floors. On exhibit are a varied collection of artwork, 18th and 19th century furniture, textiles and collectibles. The museum also presents exhibitions of fine art from local, state, regional and national artists
