About the area
The Crazy Mountain museum here in Big Timber is a great place to get an idea of the history of Sweet Grass county. The exhibits are representative of items important to the history of the county such as sheep ranching: the impact of the Norwegians displayed in the The Norwegian Stabbur building with its Norwegian artifacts, a one-room school house and a Lewis and Clark exhibit; a miniature recreation of the town of Big Timber of 1907; Days of the Cremer Rodeos and a pioneer memorial gallery. Associated with the museum is the Lewis and Clark Native Plant garden with interpretive signs relating to the plants and facts of the expedition here in Sweet Grass County during July of 1806. At the end of each June, a Northern Rodeo Association/Northern Women's Rodeo Association sanctioned rodeo is held in Big Timber. The events held are calf roping, steer wrestling, bronc, bull riding and barrel racing among its events. The crowd usually goes crazy when the wild cow riding takes place. The Sweet Grass County fair held at the end of July under the banner of the 4H clubs , Future Farmers of America and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. The fair features hundreds of exhibits in the livestock show. In the evening there is musical entertainment and Friday of the fair there is a barbecue.
