Two courts, the Harlowton Justice Court and Harlowton City Court, make up what is here called Harlowton Court. They both lie in the Fourteenth judicial district of Montana. The justice court handles civic and traffic infractions in the county outside of the Harlowton city limits. Those occurring within the limits are handled by the city court. US 12 and SR 3 cross the middle of Wheatland, however SR 3 turns North just before Harlowton where it meet US 191 coming in from the North to meet US 12 and running to the South of the county. US 12 and US 191 meet in the Western part of Harlowton.
About the area
What had been Harlowton Milwaukee depot, a passenger station of the Milwaukee railroad was abandoned by the railroad about 20 years after passenger service was discontinued at the beginning of the 1960's. It has been restored as the Harlowton Milwaukee Depot museum. The museum has on display railroad posters, signs, equipment used by railroadmen and other artifacts related to the railroad's history. The other museum in town is the Upper Musselshell museum. This museum's displays is rather like a hodge podge with items which belonged to the people who lived and worked in the the Upper Musselshell river. The museum also holds an old switchboard with a mannequin of an operator and a replica of a dinosaur skeleton.
