Wibaux Court

Wibaux Justice Court and Wibaux City Court are parts of the Wibaux Court and are in the Seventh judicial district of Montana. Civil and traffic infractions occurring throughout Wibaux county except within the city limits of Wibaux are handled by the justice court; those occurring within the city limits are handled by the city court. The major roads in Wibaux county, IS 94, SR 7 and SR 261, meet in the city of Wibeux. IS 94 runs through the Northern part of the city of Wibauax while SR 7 and SR 261 meet in town.

Pierre Wibaux, a French immigrant was at one time one of the largest cattlemen in the state of Montana owning as many as 75,000 head of cattle. His office building is now the location of the Pierre Wibaux museum displaying antiques collected by him and his wife and items which belonged to early settlers in the area. It is part of a museum complex including a Montana Centennial Train Car which went to the World's Fair in New York in 1964, an antique barber shop and a livery stable. Come to this museum and you not only get the collections to view but gardens, created by a gardener brought by Wibaux from France, in the park surrounding the museum complex. There is also a a grotto, in the garden, made of native rocks like agate, petrified wood and lava and occupied by a a fountain of a graceful Grecian-like woman collecting water. There is an unusual annual festival held in this town called the Eastern Montana 'Ski Festival.' Unusual because it has nothing to do with skiing instead it is a celebration of the large number of Polish settlers in the area whose names end in 'ski' and the 'Nor skis,' Germans and other ethnic groups who developed Wibaux County. Besides the parade, polka music and a Polish barbecue, there are games including one with a nod to the title of the event is mechanical surfing. A ranch rodeo with events based on work done on area ranches is held during this festival.
