About the area |
Caldwell County formed in the 1840s has an estimated population of 79000 inhabitants, reporting approximately 15% of German ancestry and less than 10% Irish ancestry. This puzzle piece of the Hickory-Morganton-Lenoir metro area was named for Joseph Caldwell, first president of the University of North Carolina; and it is served today by Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute and the South Caldwell High School. Some of the communities in this land are Cedar Rock, Granite Falls, Patterson, Sawmill, and Hudson where many notable natives and residents spent part of their lives; such as Claudia Church, Kary Mullis, James Pritchett, Rube Walker, and Larry Smith. |
