About the area |
The first settlements in this land started back in the 1760s when several people came along with Samuel Benton; but it was not till 1816 when Oxford municipality was incorporated into Granville County map. Oxford is the county seat of Granville County, which was named after John Carteret, the Earl of Granville. This territory has more than 8330 residents with an extensive racial makeup where 45% of the population is White Non Hispanic, more than 50% of the inhabitants are African American, and finally the remaining percentage is represented by Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander and other races. |
