About the area

Established back in the 1770s, this community of almost 460 square miles of extension is the son of Tyrrell and Halifax Counties. As member of the Mid-East Commission regional council of governments, this land divided into ten townships and nested between the territories of Bertie, Pitt, Edgecombe, Washington, Beaufort, and Halifax Counties has a very stable government struggling constantly with poverty coming from the lack of employment in this corner of North Carolina State. Some of the settlements in this land include Parmele, Hamilton, Williamston, Everetts, and Poplar Point.
