About the area |
This community was born back in the 1760s with 655 square miles of territory from a portion from Beaufort County. This member of the Mid-East Commission regional council of governments has a population density of over 200 people per square mile and it is divided into seventeen townships and eleven cities including Grifton, Pactolus, Swift Creek, Arthur, Stokes, Winterville, and Belvoir. More than 32250 families have made this land their home, which is served by the East Carolina University and Pitt Community College. This tolerant and delicate territory has an extensive racial makeup of 6/10 of White Non Hispanic population, more than 3/10 of African American residents, and approximately 1/10 of Asian, Pacific Islander, Latino, and other racial groups. |
