Medora District Court is the district court of Billings county in the Southwest judicial district of North Dakota.
About the area
At one time Medora was part of the Louisiana territory, Missouri territory and the Nebraska territory. Finally around 1861 it became part of the Dakota territory. Around 1879 Billings county was created. In 1880 a small town called Little Missouri arose between Badlands Cantonment and the Little Missouri river and soon afterwards the Northern Pacific railroad reaches the town. Three years later the Badlands Cantonment is abandoned and a French nobleman establishes the city of Medora East of the river. The Chateau de Mores State Historic Site Interpretive center is the gateway to the grounds on which Marquis de Mores, founder of the town, built his home. The center contains a gallery which displays artifacts related to the history of Marquis de Mores, his wife Medora and their families. A replica of a box car is a part of this exhibit. The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame has permanent and traveling western culture exhibits, a Hall of Honorees and a theater as well as other features.
