About the area

Westhope started out as a small community called Richburg around 1898 with a population made up primarily of farmers and busnessmen. The town had a general store and a post office. However, around 1903, the Great Northern Railroad purchased and started a town site located 1 1/2 miles East of Richburg. The railroad urged the citizens of Richburg and a couple of other small towns to purchase lots in this new town serviced by the railroad. The wisdom of such a move was appreciated and the Richburg townspeople moved to the new site. Campgrounds can be found at Shepherds Hill At The Crossroads.
