| About the area |
Ellendale is so proud of its citizens that it has established a Walk of Fame with stars on the sidewalks of Main street to honor individuals who have contributed to the welfare of the town with their accomplishments. Originally a railroad town site Ellendale was the first permanent settlement in Dickey county and had its beginnings in the Fall of 1881. It was named for the wife of the the superintendent and general manager of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railroad. The Coleman museum has on display its collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the Ellendale area. The museum building was originally the the Farmers National bank. The Ellendale Opera house, circa 1908, is in the process of complete renovation. It presently has a main floor theater where music programs and theatrical productions are presented and the same floor art exhibits. The second floor auditorium is also the venue for these productions. |
