Mott District Court is frequently called the Hettinger County District Court of the North Dakota Southwest judicial district.
About the area
Hettinger county was established by the Dakota Territory Legislature around 1883. Its county seat, Mott, is known for the wildlife such as deer, antelope, pheasant, grouse and and turkey in the area around it. The Mott Gallery of History and Art is located in the old bank building, circa 1911, and it is where you will see "The Biker Thinker" a life-size metal sculpture by a local artist. This facility also now has an agricultural annex where you can find machinery exhibits including a Massey Harris #21, the first self-propelled combine used during World War II to alleviate the manpower shortage to reap the crops. The Stern Homestead, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a good example of the housing built by the German-Russian immigrants to this area. It's a house-barn combination which provided family living quarters, storage and animal shelter all under a single roof.
