This court meets on an infrequent basis. US 83 runs along the Western edge of Wilton and meets CR 24 coming in from the West. |
About the area |
Around 1898, a former U.S. Senator and surveyor-General from Minnesota and a principal owner of the Washburn-Crosby Flour Mills purchased over 100,000 acres of Northern Pacific grant lands. In the Spring of 1899 he came to look over the land he had purchased; and later that Spring he selected a town site with four blocks in Burleigh County and eleven in McLean County and named it Wilton. The name was taken from a town in his home state of Maine. Although there were only a half dozen residents at its beginning the town grew with a mixture of primarily Ukrainians, Germans and Scandinavians until its present population of around 800. The city maintains three parks which in combination have a pond, playground equipment, a tennis court, baseball diamonds, a soccer field, a Frisbee Golf course and picnic facilities. |
