About the area
Hagen is located on the original Farrington homestead but was sold by a subsequent owner to the Tuttle Land company which laid out the town and gave it the name Hazen for its first postmaster. In a surprising move most of the significant businessmen relocated to this town from Krem. The first businesses established in the town were the Knife River Lumber company, Jack Gallagher’s store and post office, Mike Keeley’s store building and Richard Farrington’s hotel. The businessmen who moved here from Krem maintained the cohesiveness they established in that town. The city has a number of nice parks including Ann Chase, Christmann, Heritage, Hubers, John Moses, Lewis and Clark RV, North Star, Riverside and Southwest as well as a Skate park, outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. For entertainment in this town there is the Sakakawea South Shore Community theater which presents musical productions each Summer; jam sessions by musicians who gather at the Hazen City Hall the first Sunday of each month from April to November; Music in the Park held weekly during the Summer months at the Paul Weiser Memorial park; the annual Jazz Night in February at which Junior and Senior High jazz bands present a concert and the annual Germans from Russia Musikfest.
