About the area
Rugby became a town around 1886 where a spur to Bottineau met the main line of the Great Northern railroad, resulting in it originally being called Rugby Junction for Rugby in Warwickshire, England. The Geographical Center of North America is in Rugby where U.S. Highway 2 and North Dakota State Highway 3 meet. A simple monument of stone has been erected at the spot, with a plaque stating this fact. The Prairie Village museum consists of 23 historic buildings which are completely furnished and six exhibition halls. The halls have on display all kinds of artifacts and such interesting items as antique cars and farm machinery all of which have been restored and are in excellent condition. The structures include the saloon with a mannequin bartender, a jail, a typical immigrant home on the prairie, a two story schoolhouse, a Great Northern railroad caboose, a circa 1885 log cabin and a Cook Car which served threshing crews.
