Devils Lake District Court

Devils Lake District Court is the district court of Ramsey county and is part of the Northeast judicial district of North Dakota.

The water of Devils Lake or Minnewaukan, in Ramsey county, is unusual in that it resembles that of the ocean, consisting of a solution of chloride of sodium, magnesium, sulphate, carbonate of soda and lime. Although this lake has plenty of fish of the pike family, known as pickerel it is thought by some to be curative of nervous and rheumatic diseases. Many of the communities around the lake benefit from sandy beaches along the rim of the lake in their areas. Part of the Cut Head Sioux Indian reservation is in this county and includes within its borders the Fort Totten Military reservation. This facility dates back to around 1867, about two years after the military forces of the United States first occupied this area. The county was established around 1883 although fur traders had been in the Devil Lake area as far back as 1815.
