Wahpeton District Court

You might want to call the Wahpeton District Court, which is in the Southeast Judicial district of North Dakota, by its formal name, the District Court of Richland County.

You might not know this but part of Richland county, in the South, was part of Roberts county. The county came into being at the beginning of 1873 and was formally formed towards the end of the year. In Mooreton you can visit the only restored Bonanza farm in the United States. When the financier of the Northern Pacific railroad went bankrupt around 1873; large tracts of land were sold by the government to finance building the railroad. An attorney and businessman from Erie, Pennsylvania bought one of these tracts around Mooretown and established what might be called a bonanza farm because of its size. What remains of the farm, the Bagg farm, has been given the status of National Historic Landmark by the National Parks Service and all 21 buildings on the site have been restored.
