Slope County was created around 1915 from a part of Billings county. The county has a number of Streams, rivers and creeks including Johny creek, South Cedar creek, Butte creek, First creek, North Cedar creek, Bacon creek, Cottonwood creek, Cannonball creek and Spring Coulee creek. The total population of the county is under 800 and its county seat Amidon has a population under 30 and a median resident age of 64. Many of the original buildings, from when the city reached its highest population around 1930, still remain.
