Cando District Court is Towner county's district court in the Northeast judicial district of North Dakota.
About the area
Towner county was established several years before North Dakota was admitted to the United States. It was formed from parts of Cavalier and Rolette counties as a result of a resurvey of the area. In the Winter of 1883 the first public meeting in the county was held at the approximate location of what was to become Cando. The early settlers in the county were of Scandinavian, Canadian, English, Finnish and French descent. Three area s in the county are good places for fisherman to make a catch in both Summer and Winter. They are Armourdale dam with pike, walleye and perch; Bisbee dam with pike, walleye and perch and Lake Irvine with a population of pike. The Lake Alice National Wildlife refuge is part of the Lake Region Birding trail where not only can thousands of snow geese, Canada geese, sandhill cranes and ducks can be seen but also black-crowned herons, snowy and cattle egrets, western and eared grebes, marsh wrens, Virginia and sora rails, coots, bitterns, and great blue herons.
