Although North Dakota was not admitted as one of the United States until the Fall of 1889; about four year earlier the three commissioners of the County of Ward in the Territory of Dakota met to agree to the location of the original courthouse. Each year Minot State University presents its concert for the International Artist series. The annual state fair is held in July at the North Dakota State Fair center in Minot. Other events held at this venue include the Artfest in October showcasing visual arts of the region and "Burgers, Beans and Bras" also in October with a rodeo and pancake breakfast and ,
