About the area
Although Albion was not recognized as an incorporated village until around 1882; it was established in the 1870's. The name of the town was decided in a game of chance and the town was laid out in the Fall of 1872. The town grew slowly until a wave of immigration to the county occurred around 1879. After the construction of the railroad through the town between 1880 and 1881 it experienced rapid growth when it became the receiving and shipping point of freight for several adjacent counties. The annual Boone County fair is held here in early July. To start the fair off there is a gun show, Golf-on-the-Go, grill-off, and a concert. That's in the addition to the parade, Open Class exhibits, antiques tractor show, 4-H animal shows, team Penning, junior rodeo, Working Ranch rodeo, bull riding, bingo, races, car soccer, Combine Demo-Derby and the D.C. Lynch carnival. Excitement is the norm at the Boone County raceway where Hobby Stock, Street Stock, IMCA Modified and Limited Late Model races are held on Friday nights from May to September at the Boone County fairgrounds in this city.
