Cass County Courthouse

The county court and the district court (Rm. 303) are both located in the Cass County Courthouse and are in the Second judicial districts of Nebraska. SR 50 coming down through Cass county meets with US 34 and SR 1. US 34 also meets SR 1 and 63 while US 75 runs through the Eastern part of the county.

Cass county received its authorization around 1855. Plattsmouth was founded prior to this around 1854 and the location of its East end at the Missouri river brought economic growth to the city with the possibilities for trade and travel. The downtown area grew with the construction of businesses and beautiful homes many of which are still occupied. Over 40 buildings in the Main Street Historic district are listed on the National Register of Historic places and representative of late 19th and early 20th century architecture. More historical data is yours to peruse at the Cass County Historical museum. The exhibits here are representative of the golden age of steamboating on the Missouri River, the pioneer experience, the arrival of the train, farm production, the age of the automobile, the telephone, radio, churches and religious life, schools, and entertainment. The museum contains a Pioneer room, a Victorian parlor and a general store. Other historical sites are the Joseph and Mary Cook Log Cabin, circa 1868 and a Burlington Northern Caboose in Plattsmouth and a one-room schoolhouse in Rock Bluffs.
