Greeley County Courthouse

Greeley County Courthouse is home to the county court (Box 302) and the district court (Box 287) each of which is part of their respective Eighth Nebraska judicial district. US 281, running down the length of Greeley county, will connect you with SR 22, SR 56 and SR 91.

The four villages which make up Greeley county are Scotia, Spalding, Wolbach and Greeley which is the county seat. Around 1872 people already living in the area set out to create Greeley county. In an election one year later Lamartine was selected as the county seat however one year after that the citizens of Scotia succeeded in an election selecting their village selected as the county seat. Over 10 years later when the Burlington railroad construction through the county was completed, Greeley had railroad connections and was located in the center of the county; resulting in an election, around 1890, which selected it as the new seat. The Irish heritage of this city can be seen in the original names of the majority of the streets in the city, some of which are still displayed. The annual Greeley Irish festival is held in September at Greeley city park. Entertainment is by several bands performing Irish music. You can get some Irish favorites here such as Sheppard's pie, corned beef & cabbage and coddle soup as well as other food goodies. Many of the vendors at this event sell Irish goods.
