In the Hitchcock County courthouse you can find the county court and the district court. Each court is in its respective Eleventh judicial district of Nebraska. US 6 sweeps into Hitchcock county from the North and as it veers to the East it joins up with US 34. It also connects with SR 25 which runs into Trenton where it meets US 34.
About the area
As the 19th century dawned Trenton was founded just West of its present location by a group of settlers who had been living there since about 1885. Previous to that time it was a location on the Texas-Ogallala cattle trail. Its founding followed a perilous time in the county; several years earlier approximately 700 men, women and children were attacked and killed by Sioux Indians at the place now called Massacre Canyon. When the Burlington & Missouri River railroad selected a slightly different location for its Trenton depot the new town site was established. The Hitchcock County museum's exhibits reflect this history and even later years into the early 20th century. Nearby Swanson reservoir is a favorite spot of fisherman and boaters and game such as deer, pheasant and turkey can be found in the area.
