Both the county court and the district court, located in this building, are in the First judicial districts of Nebraska. US 75 passes through Nemaha county, meets SR 67 and meets US 136 and SR 105 in Auburn.
About the area
Auburn is made up of what was once the towns of St. George, Sheridan and Calvert. The small town of St. George was laid out in the 1850's and Sheridan, a much larger are, around 1868. When the Burlington and Missouri railroad selected a site South of Sheridan, around 1881, they purchased the land around the site and named it Calvert. However 1 year later these towns were incorporated into a town which was named after Auburn, New York. As a result the town now has two downtown areas, one in courthouse square and the other in what used to be Sheridan. The city is the recipient of a singular honor having been designated as Tree City USA award by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 37th year in a row. There are several recreational venues in Auburn such as Legion Park for swimming and tennis, Rotary lake for fishing, the Auburn Recreational complex which has RV camping with electric hookups and the Auburn Wellness center with its fitness and weight room, racquetball court, sauna and gymnasium where you can run around to your hearts content. The Nemaha Valley museum is housed in two buildings, one of which served many commercial purposes in the past and now has three floors of exhibits. In this building you will see some interesting rooms depicting a kitchen, law office, school room, church and bank. The second building or Agricultural building has in it larger vehicles and farm equipment
