Pawnee County Courthouse

The county court and district court (Box 431) are both in the same building and in the First judicial districts of Nebraska. SR 4, SR 8, SR 50 and SR 105 are the major roads in Pawnee county.

Pawnee City is on the National Registry of Historic Places with over 50 different properties included in the designated area. The city suffered a disaster around 188 when fire destroyed a major portion of the town. However, just about everything was rebuilt of brick in the Italiante Style and many of the styles of the Victorian period are demonstrated in the buildings. Helping to recall the past appearance of the city are the six blocks of the historic business district with Victorian lighting and the restored house, circa 1867, of the first governor of Nebraska which has been moved to the Pawnee City Historical Society museum. The city is embarking on projects to attain an up to date look. There's the new Prairie Hill Sports complex with new baseball and softball fields, new state-of-the-art running track at the high school's sports complex, the city pond has been rebuilt, New street paving, sidewalks and utilities have been added to the downtown business district and a large number of the older buildings have been remodeled. Twenty-two historic buildings are on the grounds of the Pawnee Historical Society and Museum. In addition this site has old-time implements of farm and home, antique furnishings and tools, vintage vehicles, rare photos and books, unique handcraft items and personal possessions of those who lived in the area.
