Rock County Courthouse is home to the county court and district court (Box 367) each of which is part of their respective Eighth judicial district of Nebraska. If you take SR 7 or SR 137 to US 20; you can use that road to get to US 183 which passes through most of the length of Rock county.

About the area

After some settlers made their homes on land by the Niobrara river around 1878, ranchers found the area to be suitable for raising cattle and moved large herds of Texas cattle to the area. One of the ranchers gave his name to the town of Bassett. About four years later prairie schooners brought large numbers of settlers to the area. June brings the annual Sandhills Ranch Expo to Bassett. This Large Ranch Oriented Trade show has bareback, saddlebronc and bull riding events and attracts many attendees from all over the United States. The Rock County Historical museum, which is located at the fairgrounds in Bassett, has in addition to the artifacts relating to county history in its main building, structures in its complex such as a pioneer home, the Cosgrove school house, St. Michael Catholic Church and the Chicago and Northwestern depot with railroad artifacts including even a caboose.
