Valley County Courthouse

The county court and the district court are located in the Valley County courthouse and each is part of their respective Eighth judicial district of Nebraska. SR 11, SR 22 and SR 70 are roads in Valley county that interconnect.

Around 1874 land was purchased from the Burlington & Missouri River railroad to create the town of Ord. That same year the building of Fort Hartsuff was started to provide protection from expected Indian attacks. About six years later there was a building boom when 35 structures were built most of which were businesses. BY 8 years later the town was served by the Union Pacific and Burlington railroads. Ord is situated in the Loup Rivers Scenic Byway and surrounded within a few miles by the Calamus, Sherman and Davis Creek reservoirs and the North Loup, Middle Loup, Calamus and Cedar rivers. Ord has four local parks one of which, Bussell park, has within it the municipal pool. The Valley County Museum and Historical Society is the place where you can look over written, photographic, audio and visual records. The museum also has many artifacts relative to the history of settlement of the county.
